For the last over one week, Karachi police have started a new drama. They have set up so-called checkpoints all over Clifton where an aisle has been created in the center of the road with cones and grills.
“Manned or unmanned, these roadblocks remain in the center of the road, clogging main thoroughfares”
Manned or unmanned, these roadblocks remain in the center of the road, clogging main thoroughfares impeding already congested roads during peak rush hours. Cars with blackened tinted glasses, having fancy illegal number plates and even suspicious looking vehicles are not being stopped or checked. The ones falling victims of these roadblocks are either bikers or smaller cars.
One of the roadblocks is placed on the road in front of Karachi Grammar School, another one at the entrance to Mai Kolachi Bypass from the Clifton side, another one on the road opposite to Abdullah Shah Ghazi Mazar and so on. This new drama seems to be staged on the main roads frequented by top government officials to impress the higher-ups and to display some kind of efficiencies at the cost and inconvenience of the citizens of Karachi.
