Mufti Taqi Usmani Escapes Assassination Attempt In Karachi

Renowned Islamic scholar Mufti Taqi Usmani survived an assassination attempt on Friday when he was attacked by unknown gunmen on Karachi’s Shahrah e Faisal earlier in the day.

According to media reports, four gunmen on two motorcycles sprayed his car with bullets from both sides. Although Mufti Taqi Usmani was unhurt in the incident, his security guard Sanobar Khan and fellow passenger Maulana Shahbullah Khan achieved martyrdom.

Former Shariat Court judge Mufti Taqi Usmani and Mufti Rafi Usmani run one of the largest seminaries in Karachi, Darul Uloom and is believed to be one of the most influential people in Pakistan.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has sought a report from the Inspector General Sindh Police who instructed the police and Rangers to cordon off the areas.

The incident broke the calm that Karachi was going through after police and the paramilitary Rangers launched a crackdown against criminal elements in the city. Let’s hope that they are able to catch the culprits this time around and make them an example for others who want to emulate them.
